Recommended for students who have completed the Foundational Dance class or have prior dance experience.

This Foundational intermediate dance class is designed for students who already have familiarity with the fundamental principles of movement and are ready to expand their technique, coordination, and expressive abilities.

Structured as a 9-week series offered four times per year, the Intermediate Dance class builds upon the essential hand, arm, and foot positions introduced in the foundational program. Students begin to connect these positions into longer movement phrases and choreographic combinations, developing continuity, precision, and fluidity in their dancing. The class continues to draw on principles historically rooted in classical ballet—the widely recognized technical foundation or “mother language” of many dance forms—while exploring how these principles appear across diverse movement traditions such as classical and miniature folk dances, Persian folk dance, Spanish and flamenco styles, ballroom dance, and other cultural and theatrical forms.

At this level, students work more extensively with movement dynamics, rhythm, and musical interpretation, learning how to shape movement phrases with intention and clarity. Greater emphasis is placed on transitions between positions, directional changes, and coordination of the upper and lower body, allowing dancers to move through space with increased confidence and expressive control.

Students further develop their understanding of how the body moves through three planes of movement, strengthening spatial awareness, stage orientation, and the ability to communicate movement clearly within a performance context. The class also introduces more advanced weight transfers, turns, and traveling patterns, helping dancers achieve greater balance, efficiency, and fluidity in motion.

By expanding upon the technical foundation established in earlier training, this program supports dancers in developing greater musicality, expressive range, and performance presence, preparing them for more complex choreography and deeper artistic exploration.
